The cherry trees outside the Afternoon Study window are blooming again, for the third spring in a row. And this year, Mochi has a small anniversary of her own: three years of napping on the same windowsill.
The Sakura scene, refreshed
The petals now fall at different speeds and spin as they drift, and the light on the hills is softer. Mochi's fur takes on a slight pink tint during the special, which several listeners insist is "just the sunlight".
Mochi in numbers
Over three years, Mochi has blinked roughly 11.8 million times on screen. Her tail has swung more than 70 million times. She has never once woken up. We are very proud of her.
Your sakura photos
Last spring, many of you shared photos of the blossoms where you live, from Tokyo and Sendai to places much further away. This year we would love to see them again. Send them to hello@vidmosta.xyz with the subject "sakura", and we will feature a few in the next news post (only with your permission, of course).
The broadcast
Sakura Special 2026 starts on 4 April at 12:00 JST and runs for six hours, with new tracks from Mio Sakuraba, Yuzu Sodafloat and Nekomata Beats. Mochi will be there. Obviously.
